These are the words of Dr. Rita Pierson, a teacher of 40 years, the daughter and granddaughter of teachers. In her TED Talk during the first ever TED/PBS TV special on TEDTalks Education, Rita shares with us her view on how we can reform education, on what teachers can do to help children succeed, to stay in school and to believe in themselves.
Teachers need to believe, listen and value their children, even if they don’t like them.
Teachers need to seek first to understand, not to be understood.
Every child, she says, deserves a champion who will never give up on them … and insists they become the best they can possibly be.

While Rita is talking about young people in high school, there is no reason why this should stop when young people reach university.
